This Month in Senses: March 2016

I stumbled across this post last month, which inspired me to start a series called This Month in Senses.

Cliche Blogger "Photography" Tips That Need to STOP!

If you didn't already know, I'm a photographer and have been as an amateur for nearly 7 years, semi-professional for the past 3, and have been published on some websites, blogs and in magazines. Another thing you may not know about my photography is that I use film, and always have done, so I learnt with film. No digital shortcuts, I learnt fully manual - and I mean fully, external light meter and the lot,  not the digital excuse for manual! In other words: I'm very confident finding my way around a camera!  More and more people are taking up photography, especially as popularity for blogging has boomed. I love that more people love creating images, but it also means you're being bombarded with "tips" that are well, to be frank, nonsense: technically incorrect and cliche. Shall we have a look at my favourites?

HOW TO: Combat Under Eye Fine Lines + Creasing Concealer

One of my biggest struggles regarding my make-up is the fine lines under my eyes. Concealer grabs to these fine lines anyway because they're so prominent, but their existence in the first place also makes concealer more prone to creasing due to the uneven surface it sits on. It is a big problem for me that I've been formulating ways to overcome for the best part of the last two years, and I've decided to share with you a way I've found to significantly reduce the appearance of these fine lines and prevent your concealer creasing.

Colour Correcting and Concealing with NYX

Colour correcting is to 2016 what strobing was to last summer: the new hype. I recently put the YSL neutralisers to the test, and now it's NYX's turn.

Live Love London Picks: Review + Swatches

I was sent these Live Love London products to give my thoughts on them, so I was really eager to give them all a go. I was debating a lot about how to present my thoughts, because I really do have a lot to say about these.  I wasn't sure whether to review the products individually, review the palettes together and talk about others in other posts like my Monthly Favourites or Whats New on My Vanity.  Unnecessary anecdote on my blogging struggles aside, I decided to just review them collectively. So here we go: my thoughts on Live Love London products.

Photo Shoot: Georgie & Tulips

Georgie and I are both on break from University for Easter, so we took the opportunity to do a photo shoot. I usually plan photo shoots meticulously at least a month in advance, but this one was almost off the cuff. I'd only had it in mind for the past week! But I'm so happy with how the shots came out.

Beauty Throwback #1: Benefit Magic Ink Liquid Liner

This is the first post in a series I anticipate to on the second to last Thursday of every month: my Beauty Throwback. I'll be revisiting some of the first ever products that I bought when make-up became a hobby - cough, obsession - that I still continue to repurchase. I'm kicking off this series with something I still use on a regular basis, Benefit's Magic Ink Liquid Eyeliner.

Makeup Revolution Eyeshadows Review + GIVEAWAY

I bought the Makeup Revolution Matte Beyond Flawless Ultra Eyeshadow palette when Makeup Revolution was popping up across the country and the hype was only just beginning to simmer. That was quite a while ago as you can imagine! I found this palette when I was re-organising my make-up, and I thought, what with the hype over MUR now, why don't I pitch in?

What's New on My Vanity

As a self confessed shop-a-holic and neophile, I'm always getting new things (I swear I am on a budget! I don't know how I'm surviving adulthood, to be honest..) that I'd love to talk about on my blog, but I just don't feel like there's enough to say in one post alone, or that they'd fit into a composite post. So I thought I'd start a new series: What's New on My Vanity, to discuss all the miscellaneous new items I've got.

NEW Releases from Benefit: Dandelion Dew and Dew the Hoola

With Spring just around the corner and Summer creeping just behind it, Benefit is already paving the way for all the bright and sunny inspired products of the summer collections. I decided to review both Dandelion Dew and Dew the Hoola together because they're so similar and both part of Benefit's recent new launch.

YSL Touche Eclat Neutralisers REVIEW

So many brands at the moment are coming out with colour correcting products, YSL included. I thought these were new, I saw them on Sephora mid-February and just assumed they wouldn't be in the UK for another month or so. They actually came out in January?! I never even saw them advertised! But as soon as I saw them in store a couple of weeks ago, I snapped them all up.

Every cosmetics brand under the sun is now selling liquid lipsticks, and TooFaced is no exception; but their product is much more unique.

Come Shopping With Me

Depending on how long you've been a reader of my blog, you may or may not have clocked that I have a very serious case of make-up junkie-ism, as well as shopaholic-ism. These two conditions combined equate to frequent trips to shopping centres, excessive spending and make-up hoarding.I decided, therefore, to start a series called Come Shopping With Me, where I document my shopping expeditions.

Top 3 Eyeshadow Palettes for A Neutral Smokey Eye

I'm a big fan of the classic, neutral smokey eye. I think a neutral brown compliments every eye colour and skin tone, and I find it great for everyday. Keep it cool, soft and smokey and it looks subtle and natural; warm it up or darken it, add a sharp wing, and you're glam to go. It's such a versatile look, so I narrowed down my 3 favourite eyeshadow palettes for creating it.

The Nars multiple is my all time, number 1 favourite make-up product. It has the most unique formula I've ever come across, in "stick" products, as well as make-up products in general.

NEW Zoeva Rose Golden Blush Palette REVIEW + SWATCHES

The new launch from Zoeva: The Rose Golden Blush Palette. Personally, I think this is wrongly named. Including a pink blush shade, a white highlight shade, and a muted brown contour shade, I would suggest that, actually, this is closer to being a contour palette. Nevertheless, I love it.

Favourite Illuminators for a "Glow From Within"

As we get out of winter, more and more the dewy look is growing on me. There's just something about that sun lit glow that looks so feminine and youthful, isn't there? When I do opt for a dewy finish, I much prefer it to look natural. Of course I apply highlight over the top of my make-up, but rather than full on, in-your-face strobing, I like to apply an illuminator underneath my foundation to create a glow from within look. So I thought I'd share my favourite illuminators with you!

Nars Haul - Including Swatches

Nars is my all time favourite make-up brand, and there's always several items on the top of my wish list. Literally always! Nars is obviously expensive, but I'd say Nars is one of the most innovative and high quality brands, that has genuinely unique products. I admittedly recently went a bit overboard and bought a bunch of Nars products...I'd try and justify it by saying that I bought all of them over 2 orders....but that was still in the space of 1 week. Don't judge me please! Anyway, I'll share what I bought and my immediate thoughts on them if I've used them yet:

Bobbi Brown Art Stick Review & Swatches

I remember once, a couple of years ago, approaching a Bobbi Brown counter where a young girl was serving, and I asked - maybe a little presumptuously - "what does Bobbi Brown have that's different from other brands?". Don't get me wrong, I wasn't trying to be that difficult customer, I was genuinely looking for a really innovative, unrivalled product. Well, two years on, I think I've found it.

Favourite Drugstore Lip Products - Including Swatches

I'll admit that when it comes to base products such as skincare, primer, foundation and concealer, I do prefer high end options as I feel like these offer a better performance and better ingredients in most cases. However, I am definitely a fan of the occasional drugstore lip product. I'm less inclined to pay extortionate amounts for lipsticks and such (even though I still do, unapologetic make up junkie!) because when it comes lip products they're so small to carry around, and touching it up throughout the day is so easy, other factors such as long wear that tend to carry a higher price tag aren't a main concern. What I'm most interested in is the colour! I feel like the drugstore has a lot to offer in the lip department, with most brands having a gorgeous colour range of lipsticks and glosses, some of which are definitely comparable to high end alternatives.

Disappointing Beauty Products

I wanted to start a series of disappointing products posts, so here we go! I'd like to start off by saying that I love make-up. Like love it. Because as much of the fun of make-up for me is playing with it and making it work, there isn't really any products I've thrown away or vowed to never use again, rather products that haven't lived up to my initial expectations. I always try to find some use for it, even if it is just the lipstick I take out with me when I'm drinking so that if I lose it it's not a big deal! (I lost a Chanel lipstick in a toilet of a bar once...never again...). I appreciate all the products and brands in this post, and in most cases love many of their other products. Anyway, take a look at products I haven't been overly impressed with recently:

February Favourites

Very much unlike me, but I haven't actually worn make-up that often through February. I've had the flu, and if I haven't been ill in bed I've been trying to catch up from being ill in bed! Nonetheless, when I have worn make-up I've made a note of products that particularly stood out to me, that I've compiled into my February Favourites.
