5 Foundations You Need in Your Life

Any beauty junkie will tell you that investing in a good foundation is essential, and I absolutely concur. Aside from skincare of course, foundation is the most important step in your routine towards achieving a flawless base. I have tried and tested dozens of foundations, and here I am with my absolute top 5 foundations that, from my experience, I recommend that you need in your life!

Each of these foundations are products that I just keep going back to, and have/will repurchase/d over and over again.
Hourglass Vanish Foundation Stick
This is the most recently launched of the five I've selected, but its still my favourite! It's the most beautiful cream formula, that's totally full coverage yet practically as light as air. I find it offers me the coverage I want with just a couple of swipes across the cheeks, and one on my forehead, nose and chin, but if you really want ultra-ultra coverage, you can build it up and it miraculously doesn't become cake-y. It has a satin finish, so it doesn't look greasy, nor does it look moisture-suckingly matte! It feels satin on the face too, it's so comfortable. It's so, so easy to blend, creating a seamless base in seconds.  If you invest in just one foundation, I'd honestly suggest this one most of all, you really can't go wrong with it!

Kat Von D Lock It
This is the foundation I always turn to if I want my foundation to last all day. "Lock it" is the right name for it! The way it dries down reflects that, too. It dries down in a way that I haven't actually experienced before; I know that may sound embellished, but really! About a minute after application, it locks to the face - including all the finer areas like around my nose - as if it's been shrink wrapped. It's the most odd sensation! I probably haven't given the most flattering description, but it is totally comfortable and doesn't feel heavy or tight. It also has a matte finish so is an especially good high end foundation choice if you have oilier skin, but it's not drying at all so is fine for dry skin.
Nars All Day Luminous
Whereas Kat Von D's Lock It foundation has, admittedly, better staying power, it is a matte finish after all. The All Day Luminous foundation from Nars also is great for a long wear, but has a beautiful luminous finish. It's not dewy, but it really gives you a natural looking luminosity, like a youthful glow. It has a very liquid-y consistency, so once applied and blended it is so light weight it doesn't feel like you're wearing any foundation. It also has great build-able coverage!

Dior Star Fluid
This is a stunning foundation that looks like  a second skin. It creates a to-die-for lit from within glow; I'm finding it difficult to describe how effortless it is to achieve a flawless base. Its claims that, "a new generation of hollow silica beads captures and diffuses light in a correcting halo with no shine. At the same time, colour-filter pigments neutralise colour imbalances to recreate the perfect light. The complexion is clarified with a purer, more dazzling and long-lasting light. Anti light-trap skincare ingredients help reduce the appearance of dark areas, pigment spots and redness". Put simply: it does all of that! I always get compliments on how good my skin looks when I wear this!

Chanel Perfection Lumiere
Chanel's Perfection Lumiere was the first ever high end foundation I ever bought, and it's a love affair that has yet to go sour. It has the most beautiful, silky soft texture to it and it really is a joy to wear. It's not matte, but it's not dewy, it's got a beautiful subtle luminous quality to it. It's a lighter coverage than the others I've listed, but you can still build it up. It's another foundation that you really can't go wrong with, I'd suggest it's universally great for all skin types!
