Newtons Labs Skincare Picks & Review

Sometimes, when my skin is bad, I like to go back to basics. I like to put the complex serums aside and switch my expensive skincare regime out for something more simple, with a focus on keeping my skin clean.

With my skin suffering after exam season, I was excited to have an opportunity to try some skincare from Newtons Labs. The products I tried have a focus on keeping the skin clean and healthy, rather than have a long list of claims. I really like this, especially when my skin is being problematic.

My skin problems always stem from stress, so the trouble is always that my skin is inflamed. Personally, at times like this I don't feel the need to throw expensive serums at it. When the problem is from within, I focus on relaxing, drinking water and taking my Omega 3 tablets, then keeping my skincare easy, yet effective. Maybe this isn't what a dermatologist would advise, but it's the route I take.

Cream Cleansing Wash*
This is my favourite out of my picks, and I've been using it as my morning cleanser. It's anti-bacterial, so it does what it says on the tin: it cleans your skin. It has a really nice texture and it doesn't foam, which means i isn't harsh, and won't strip your skin. There isn't really much more I can say about it, because it is what it is. I truly have been loving this, and it's literally less than £2! Yes, I have more expensive cleansers that do hydrate/exfoliate etc, but what's the point when my skin isn't behaving anyway?

Shine Control Cleansing Wipes*
Cleansing wipes aren't what I reach for when I want to keep my skin clean, so I wouldn't use these alone. However, they do have their uses: travelling, festivals/camping as examples. I never do my skincare routine before I shower (what's the point?) but I will clean my skin before I go out. Personally, I use them to cleanse my face if I'm going out before I shower, like if I'm taking the dogs for a walk, popping along the road to the shop to get milk for my morning coffee, etc. Cleansing wipes aren't usually something I'd have kept around the house, I'll admit, but they definitely have their uses.
Charcoal Nose Pore Strips*
These are so disgusting. I love it! No, seriously, I don't even have a massive problem with blackheads on my nose and I was genuinely surprised at how much gunk these nose strips pulled out of my pores. It was so disgusting to see, but so so satisfying. Using these nose strips once or twice a week has definitely given my nose a deep clean, so in turn made my pores less noticeable. I love a good nose strip, and these are very effective! I highly recommend.

Spot Zapping Gel*
This contains the oh-so-important ingredient salicylic acid to combat spots. I apply this to a pimple before bed time, under my face oil. There's a slight stinging sensation for about 30 seconds, and then it goes. I noticed that after application, a pimple would either go two ways: the swelling would go down significantly (a spot would be literally flat), or the head would appear. This is not a quick fix by any means, but my skin has been really bad at the moment, but this has definitely kept my spots from looking angry, if you know what i mean.
Overall, I'm definitely thankful for these products (particularly the spot gel and cleanser) at this time where my skin has a mind of it's own. I know my skin is bad because of what's inside my body, and I like to keep the skincare simple until my stress levels/hormones have calmed down.
