Beauty Fails | Disappointing Products

I don't think I've ever done a post like this before so I thought it was about time I did! Just a necessary disclaimer: I'm not tarring these products or brands as "bad", but one particular product didn't work for me.

COSRX Blackhead Power Liquid
This is a treatment toner, which I bought because the ingredients sounded so promising. I don't suffer with blackheads, but white heads, and with two components of the acne fighting salicylic acid (Salix Alba and Betaine Salicylate), I thought this would really help with pesky break outs. How wrong was I?! Believe it or not, this product gave me blackheads. I never even experienced them before! I used it only on my forehead for about 3 days, which resulted in several deep, pitted blackheads dotted around. Very disappointed.

Cloud 9 Ultra Soothing Cream for Dry Skin*
This had way too much alcohol in it for me. Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol... It literally smelt like nail polish remover. Alcohol actually strips and dries out skin, and this is for those of us on the drier side...?

Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette
The palette is so pretty, right? But, honestly, I just don't find myself reaching for it a lot. The few occasions I've used it, I've literally used the matte shades Ounce, Chaser, Sauced and Low Blow; that's it. I can't really put my finger on anything in particular I don't like about it, but I just haven't found myself wanting to use it as much as I thought I would. For me, it's not practical for everyday use. Hopefully I'll get more use out of it once it's Autumn, when the shades are a bit more season-appropriate.

NaturalWorld Quinoa & PawPaw Shampoo & Conditioner*
I really didn't like this pair! First of all, the pump is so incredibly impractical. It's tiny compared to the huge 1L bottle, so you don't get much out of it, I had to pump it about 10 times before I got a useable amount out! Plus, it's fiddly to use - especially with wet, slippery hands in the shower! Not only that but I just didn't like the product. I didn't notice it did anything to my hair at all; it wasn't more shiny, softer, etc, but I also didn't like the smell. It smells like fairy liquid!

Diego Dalla Palma Full Coverage Foundation*
To start with, this is the wrong shade for me. I was sent this (not specifically to review, just to try) so that's neither here nor there. That aside, I really don't like the formula on my skin. It was too thick, almost sticky, but also quite oily. It was very difficult to blend.

Are there any products you've tried of late that you've been unhappy with?

  1. It's really interesting to see a different view on the Urban Decay Heat palette. All I have seen are people raving about it!
I am tempted to get it at some point but I do feel with my Naked 1 & 2 palettes I am always reaching for the same colours. Ages ago I bought a MAC eyeshadow quad with four colours that I chose, maybe it would be worth going to back to that. I'm not sure aha!

  2. I think you will get to use the Heat palette more in fall since the colours are so perfect for this season, it is a beautiful palette and it's too bad you didn't get to use it much! x

  3. So interesting to read that you're not too impressed with the Heat palette! All I've read so far are raving reviews praising it. But I guess it can't be everyone's cup of tea, and I do agree that the shades look more autumnal than summery.

  4. I was really looking forward to reading some negative stuff about Heat haha I totally get it if you don't reach for it, but with all the hype, I needed someone who is not totally obsessed with it :D
