I was SO wrong about this product..

Not that long ago, I raved about one of the products in the image above. I recommended it to lots of people, online and 'in real life'. I was incredibly wrong. Want to know more? Keep reading.

The Ordinary Vitamin C Suspension  23% + HA Spheres 2%
Ugh, this product. I raved about it a couple of months ago now, back in my August Favourites.  First, let me give you a little backstory about how I came to be using this product: my skin reacts badly to stress. Following my uni exams during Spring/Summer, I had the worst breakout I've ever had since I was 18. I had persistent red, angry spots and cysts. As soon as one went down, two more would come up. It rode it's course, once the stress had come and gone, it started to calm down, but I was left with some unsightly pigmentation. On a quest to get rid of it as soon as I could, I started adding vitamin C to my skincare routine, and I'd heard good things about The Ordinary and opted to give this Vit C Suspension a try.

Even back in my favourites, I did note then that I hated the texture, but that doesn't even scratch the surface of my current feelings toward this product. The texture isn't just thick and silicone-y, its borderline rough and scratchy. I hate it.  Regardless, I continued to use it because, initially at least, I thought it was fading my pigmentation. After the first couple of uses, to be fair, I think it did. To some extent.

After my skin started to clear up, it was on the right track for a week or two. Then I broke out worse than it had originally. Not only were there pussy, red pimples, I suddenly got really deep, hard black heads. Blackheads are a problem I've never really suffered with, not even when I was in my teens (woah, that feels weird to say? I feel old!) and yet all over a sudden my face was smothered with them.  It took me about a month to realise that it was this bloody product doing it! I stopped using it, coincidentally, for a couple of days and lo and behold, the spots went down and my skin didn't feel sore anymore. It was a light bulb moment. I used it again just to test, and sure enough, my skin was red and angry all over again.

So, to conclude, if I recommended this to you and you had the same reaction, I apologise profusely. You live, you learn! What are products you've ended up having bad experiences with after your first impressions were good?

  1. Loved this post, it's so nice to see that even though you talked highly of it before you've noticed that it isn't as fab anymore. I'm so glad you stopped using it as it sounds horrid all of those spots&hard blackheads!

  2. I haven't tried this product because of scratchy feeling & I'm glad your skin feels and looks better ✔️ Usually I get dissapointed with foundations -my skin is dry & most drugstore foundations are so drying after few uses
