My Current Winter PM Skincare Routine

Crikey, it is brisk, isn't it? Winter-proofing doesn't just include central heating and knitwear, changing up your skincare regime is important too!

My skin gets terribly dry and dehydrated after taking a battering from chilly winds, not to mention the car heater on a full blast! I focus my rehydration efforts at night, when the heat, cold - not to mention pollution - is no longer a 'distraction' for my skin.
I thought I'd share with you my current PM skincare routine with you to show you what I'm doing to lock in as much moisture as I can:

Cleansing
This is my current go-to product for removing make up. I go through 2 or 3 soaked cotton pads to get off most of the days make up. Not only does it wipe it away quickly, it's really refreshing, with aloe vera and soothing liquorice root. What I love about this particular micellar water is the sweet almond oil, which soothes and hydrates whilst the micellar water gets to work dissolving foundation! I can't say I've ever finished using this and had my skin feeling tight or uncomfortable, quite the opposite.
For my second cleanse, to get rid of any remnants of make up and to cleanse my skin, I opt for this beautiful cleansing balm from Jane Scrivner. For me, it is absolutely the right balance between waxy and and creamy. It's so soft and melts into the skin instantly, it feels so nice. And the smell is gorgeous (I think it's the Jojoba Oil that's most fragrant). I find it leaves my skin feeling really refreshed and feeling super clean, without feeling stripped. Balms, by their nature, tend to be more nourishing - and this one is a glowing example: rich in fatty acids, vitamins A, B, D and E, and, as I've said, Jojoba Oil. This is a dream come true for dry skin!

Toning
This is a strong glycolic acid resurfacing treatment. I use it every other night (or every couple of nights) to exfoliate my skin to target blemishes, hyper pigmentation, dullness and, of course, hydration. From my (amateur) understanding, exfoliating aids hydration by removing dead skin cells, which helps the actual hydrating active ingredients (like the ones in the other products I mention in this post) penetrate the skin more effectively. So this is an important step to take, but switch it up so you don't aggravate your skin by overdoing the chemical exfoliation!
Instead of Liquid Gold (or after, if it's an exfoliating night), I like to reach for my Pixi Rose Tonic. The absolutely lush, ultra-nourishing formula is perfect for this time of year! A water base, with flower extracts including rose, camellia, elder flower and aloe leaf are like the ultimate hydrating cocktail.  This is also a great pick in general, especially if you have sensitive skin.  Dermalogica Multi Active Toner*
Following the rose tonic (and Liquid Gold, if needed), I like to spritz this little gem from Dermalogica. It's the perfect extra step for moisture, filled with cucumber, lavender and mint. I think that this is a nice finishing touch for the 'prep' stage (cleansing and toning) and, in my mind at least, locks them all in, so I can get the most out of my products.

Serum
My choice of serum is simple, yet effective. It is very gentle, I like to think of it as a like a loving hug for my skin at the end of the day (bit cheesy? soz). It's sole purpose is just to hydrate and soothe. Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant which is known for it's calming and hydrating effects - specifically when it comes to relieving rough, dry, irritated skin. Bolstered by added Macadamia Oil (think rich fatty acids!) which also relieves dry skin, as well as promote a healthy looking complexion. I've been really enjoying using this serum, I'm probably about 60% of the way through the bottle - it's my go-to for when I just want plain, simple, no-nonsense nourishment.
Oil
In the interest of full disclosure, I have to tell you that this is bloody expensive. I love it, but I use it sparingly, to say the least! This is a beautiful oil: light weight, fast absorbing - and perfect for night time thanks to its calming lavender scent. Aside from it's aromatherapy properties, this facial oil boasts 11 essential oils, including organ oil and apricot oil, to quench thirsty skin. Looking past the ingredients, this luxurious leaves my skin feeling super soft, looking luminous, and, thanks to it's deliciously light formula, doesn't clog pores or feel greasy/heavy/sticky... all that bad stuff! It's a pure treat for wintery skin.
