My October Bedtime Beaty Routine | AD^

I fall in love with my bed all over again every year when Winter comes back around. When I’m out and about and it’s freezing cold, the wind is biting and I can barely feel my fingers, all I want to do is find my way back to my comfy bed!

Beds.net stock all things bedtime: the “best beds on the net”, mattresses, toppers, pillows and duvets. Basically, everything us home bodies want waiting for us at the end of a long day. Because I’m feeling the cold, wet autumnal weather lately, I thought I’d share my bedtime beauty routine. Skincare is particularly important at night because your skin isn’t concerned with combatting ultraviolet radiation and other pollutants we face (literally) in the modern world.
Cleansing
I still wear sunscreen at this time of year! Whilst I’m not at risk of being burnt by UVB rays, I still need to protect my skin from damage from harmful UVA. It’s important to remove it properly at the end of the day using an oil cleanser. I’m currently reaching for Bybi Swipe Clean cleanser. Massaging a few drops onto my face is enough to dissolve the days grime. But before my head hits the pillow, I remove the oily residue with a cream cleanser: Aveda Botanicals All Sensitive Cleanser. I apply it straight on top of the oil, then rinse off with warm water.
Treatment & Moisturiser
I have dry skin, which is only exacerbated by the cooler weather this time of year! I’ve been using Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Liquid to remove built up keratin (dead skin cells) as well as turf out any excess sebum from my pores. I top it off with Dermalogica’s Sound Sleep Cocoon*, a moisturiser formulated with a good nights sleep in mind, as well as hydration. It’s a lightweight gel night cream containing aromatic lavender, sandalwood and patchouli to engage your senses and ensure a restful sleep, boosted by tamarind seed extract to lock in moisture for soft, hydrated skin overnight.
Self Care
To wind down before bed, I always spend 20-45 minutes reading. I light a candle in the background for a calming ‘hygge’ feel. My current book is From Here to Eternity by Youtube’s Ask A Mortician, Caitlin Doughty. The book explores death rituals across the world and cultural attitudes to death through Caitlin’s death positive eyes. I highly recommend if you’re someone that doesn’t particularly enjoy fiction, and is looking for a non-fiction book that’s  eye opening and light hearted. Yes, light hearted even when it comes to such a morbid topic!
Another important PM self care ritual is spritzing a calming sleep spray just before bed. I love Neom’s Perfect Night’s Sleep Pillow Mist: a blend of essential oils like lavender, jasmine and chamomile to help me relax. I think it’s as much the ritualistic, habitual aspect of spraying it as well as the aromatherapy that makes it so effective for bedtime prep.

I hope you enjoyed reading my bedtime routine!
