Favourite Illuminators for a "Glow From Within"

As we get out of winter, more and more the dewy look is growing on me. There's just something about that sun lit glow that looks so feminine and youthful, isn't there? When I do opt for a dewy finish, I much prefer it to look natural. Of course I apply highlight over the top of my make-up, but rather than full on, in-your-face strobing, I like to apply an illuminator underneath my foundation to create a glow from within look. So I thought I'd share my favourite illuminators with you!

I really like this skin tint. I'll start with the packaging: it's a small round tub, nice and compact for travelling, but you do get quite a lot of product in it. As it's a cream rather than a liquid formula like the other two I picked, this is definitely the least oily so more appropriate for people with oily skin. It's also made out of natural ingredients - oats, essential oils and cocoa butter* - so is likely to be best suited for sensitive skin as well.  It's a beautiful formula, but I would suggest slightly too shimmery to be worn alone and is best under foundation; it blends out very smoothly and easily so your make-up is still going to apply fine over the top. It's very bright, but doesn't actually have shimmer in it. But layered under foundation, it gives a neutral, non-tinted glow, which looks very natural and gorgeous.

This is part of the Rosie Huntington-Whiteley's collaboration with Marks and Spencer's autograph, and I did a first impressions on this here. I have found this to be the most subtle, so the best to wear alone. It looks beautiful underneath foundation though, and it really does look like you're ever so slightly glowing, but not in a Chernobyl way. It has next to no shimmer in it, so it really is like radiance in a bottle. It's not tinted at all so I'd suggest that it's a universal shade. It's a little bit on the oily side, but not excessively. As a plus, the packaging is really pretty with the rose gold lid!

This is my absolute favourite of the three! It's a slightly pink undertone, but I'd still suggest it'd flatter any skin tone because it's so shimmery. Pink shades are used in colour correcting to brighten up dark areas, so understandably this really lights up your face. It practically has glitter flecks in it, so this really packs a punch! Even when worn under foundation, this really makes you look sun kissed, illuminated and glowing.  I tend to wear this one more when I am doing a full face of make-up - "full glam", if you will! - rather than a more subtle alternative for a no-make-up make-up look.  But because it blends out so seamlessly, it still looks completely natural. The packaging is a squeezey tube with a neat, secure cap. Perfect for taking around with you in a make-up bag, and nice and simple to control the product output to avoid wastage.

So, there we have it. My three favourite illuminating products! Do you use any illuminators, what are your favourites?

On Saturday I'll be posting my foundation guide. If there's anything you want to see in it -what kind of finishes are you looking for? staying power? etc - please let me know before next week! There's a poll in the sidebar or just leave a comment!

  1. I really like the sound of the Lush Skin Tint. I have never tried any makeup products from Lush but this one sounds really tempting. Thank you for sharing! x
