Worth The Hype? | Tarte Shape Tape REVIEW

I feel like I fought tooth and claw to get hold of this bloody concealer. I signed up to every mailing list I could, waited up to the early hours of the morning for the US restock - but to no avail. I finally got hold of it when I took advantage of Tarte's flash sale (check out this post to find out how much I saved and what I bought!). I feel it's a public service to tell all UK folk who - like I was - are struggling to get hold of it, but are absolutely dying to try it because of how raved over it is, whether it lives up to the hype!

So to start with, the concealer is £19 for 10ml of product. For comparison, you get 6ml of product in the Nars radiant creamy concealer. So the first thing that makes me think it's worth all the fuss: you get a lot of product for pretty good value.

In terms of it's performance, I can't say it's lived up to my expectations. That being said, I do strongly feel that's due to the overwhelming amount of rave reviews online. When I first tried this, I was expecting something that would be in a totally different league to every other concealer on the market. It's really not, it's one of the best out there, but it's not a game changer.  It doesn't budge at all, but it's not totally crease proof. After a few hours it did start to sink into the fine lines directly under my water line, but notably less than other concealers.
I can say that it is really full coverage. You will not be able to see even a hint of a dark circle if you use this! What's more, is that a little bit goes a heck of a long way. I used it the way I'd use any other concealer, smothering it all over my under eye area right up to my temple, and it was way too much. Just a few dots in the same section will do fine!  It also stays full coverage throughout the day, which is quite impressive.

Even though it's full coverage, it doesn't feel cake-y or heavy, which I really like. It also blends really, really easily. Like I said, a little goes a long way! It doesn't start to bunch up or resist my beauty blender, so it's really easy to get a nice and well blended, even highlighted area.

I also have to give Tarte kudos for making a concealer so pale. I find it difficult to find a concealer that actually highlights on me, so I always get the lightest shade. In this range, it's Fair, and I must admit I even though perhaps I could have gone a shade up!
Finally, the packaging! It's so beautiful, I love the gold and purple zig-zag duo. Plus, the doe foot applicator is so fat, I am actually in love with it. When I first saw it I was a bit hesitant because I was worried I wouldn't be able to get right into the inner corner of my eye. But it's fine! What I love about how big the applicator is, is that it not only makes it easier to apply in general, but I really feel like it hugs the contour of my eyes. It just feels good - as odd as that sounds! I really enjoy it.

I am really loving this concealer, it is good. But like I said, not a game changer. If you're struggling to get hold of it, you're not missing out on anything revolutionary. If you can, by all means, try it! I'm sure you'll love it! But please don't feel the need to impulsively buy it from America and double the cost with duty fees!
