NIOD Dermal Science Skincare | REVIEW

QVC were doing a really great offer on NIOD's 4 Piece Dermal Science Skincare Collection. It usually costs £90, but for one day only it was £49. Could I resist? Of course not. That was the beginning of the year, so I've had plenty of time to put this to the test.

I just want to preface my actual review really briefly by giving credit to QVC for the brilliant price. When you consider the price of each individual item, £49 for the lot was amazing. So just a little note to let you know to keep your eye out for QVC deals - because you can really score a bargain!

Sanskrit Saponins Cleanser, £18
I want to say it straight away this is the messiest bloody cleanser I have ever used. Anybody who reviews this and it's still in pristine condition, they are being paid to say it's good and they haven't used it SORRY NOT SORRY! The directions say to use this AM and PM every other day, but even then, some days the mess it creates makes it just not worth the hassle. If you're somebody who's in a rush a lot of the time, or just enjoys quick skincare, you will hate this no matter how beneficial it is for your skin.
It's in a squeezy tube so it's really hard to control how much comes out. Sort of like a tube of tooth paste, once you've put pressure on it and the tube creases, it continues to push out product even once you've removed the pressure. So you do end up with a lot of wastage. This isn't helped by the fact that, compared to the size of the tube, you get a fiddly little screw cap, which when your hands are smothered in the cleanser (which they will be; I can't stress enough this is MESSY AF) is very difficult to put back on! Hopefully you're getting the picture I'm trying to give you here...

With that aside, as a cleanser it's good. It does leave your skin feeling really really clean, and noticeably smoother. Since putting it into my skincare routine, my face is absolutely brighter, clearer and my skin tone is more even. It also smells like porridge oats, which I personally really like! However, I do also have a couple of gripes with the formula. Firstly, you have to thoroughly rinse it off (it does say this in the instructions, to be fair). If you don't, your face will be so sticky. To avoid this, I always thoroughly rinse it, and then go over with a bit of micellar water on a cotton pad. Secondly, if you get this in your eyes, it will sting like a little bitch. I know, I know, don't get it in your eyes in the first place. But that's easier said than done when it comes to something you're literally rubbing all over your face. I have other cleansers that - although of course you're not supposed to get them in your eyes either - they don't sting anything like this one. I think skincare - particularly face washes, where it's inevitable you're going to get it in your eyes at some point - should be a little more sensitive to begin with, in my opinion.

So, although I have noticed good things in my skin since using this as a cleanser, I won't be repurchasing it because it's so messy and time consuming it's impractical, and because I can't help but feel the positive changes are probably more down to the serums.

Copper Amino Isolate Serum, £38
This is the star product, in my experience with this collection! I suspect that this is going to be something I'm going to repurchase over, and over, and over. I think this is the product out of the four that has had the most impact on my skin.  First off, it comes in two parts to keep it fresh. You have to combine the copper with the activator, and viola! You've got your serum. This step isn't easy or messy to do though, so I have no issue with it.

Since using this, I can honestly say that my skin has never been better. I've always had a very sallow, yellow undertone complexion, but my skin is so clear! The tone is totally even, and my complexion is so much brighter it looks like (in comparison to how obvious the yellow undertone was before) I have a light shining on me. I'm so impressed; my skin actually looks white it's so clear! There are no pink patches or dark patches visible anymore. I've noticed a huge difference in the frequency I get breakouts, as well as - I'd like to add - how effective it is at clearing up pimples. I first started using this when my skin was really acting up (I had just come off the pill, so you can imagine the brief anarchy my skin experienced!), but within just over a week I had noticed a huge difference. There's also a big difference generally, in the appearance of my pores. The effect of this serum from my use of it, is it seems to have really de-congested my skin and is continuing to do so. I am in love!

Multi Molecular Hyaluronic Complex, £38
This is a life saver if your skin is dry, and is another product I think I'll be repurchasing more than once in the future! My skin feels so much more hydrated, plump and comfortable. I think this has contributed hugely to the overall improvement to my skin, particularly improving the texture of it, as well as relieving the appearance of tiredness. All three of the serums in this set come in pipet style packaging, which makes it really easy to get the right amount of product.

My only grievance with this is that it smells like vinegar. This scent doesn't linger on your face, but make sure you wash your hands afterwards otherwise you'll be smelling like a chip shop..

Fractioned Eye Contour Serum, £40
This product is really for targeting anti-aging, and as I'm only 20, I don't have any wrinkles (YET!). However, I definitely do have noticeable smile lines around my eyes, and I've found this serum has really helped to make them less exaggerated! Moreover, what I've noticed the most is that the area around my eye seems so much more plump. Rather than looking sunken, dark and tired, my under eye area looks so healthy, and generally I look like I've had a lot of sleep! However - although I absolutely do acknowledge this is a very effective product - given my age and the cost of this product individually, I don't think I'll repurchasing. I will definitely keep it in mind for the future, but right now, it's not something I feel I really need to be investing in just yet.
I am thoroughly impressed with the handful of NIOD skincare products I've tried so far, and I'm currently looking at their mud masks to explore! Since using this collection, my skin has been so good, I can't even measure the improvement. It's so clear, plump, even toned and blemish free. Although I do have problems with some aspects of a couple of the products, as a set, I can't fault it. It's a great way to save money - even when it is full price - and an even better way to try out a good sized selection of NIOD's skincare. So overall? I highly recommend.

Have you tried any of NIOD's skincare before, if so, what did you think?

  1. I have heard about this brand, a lot of positive things actually. But never tried. It looks quite expensive but as you said, it's good products so I may have a wee look at their website for more info! xx C&K

  2. I can't believe I missed this deal- I'm so intrigued by all the Deciem brands I'd have snapped it up. I'm surprised the cleanser is so messy, the tube looks similar to the Antipodes ones which I find pretty tidy but I definitely agree it's a nightmare to get the cap on when you've got product on your hands!

  3. I've never heard of this brand! I'm now so intrigued as I dive into the world of better skincare x

  4. Thanks for sharing the info, keep up the good work going.... I really enjoyed exploring your site. good resource... firming wand
