As the seasons change, so do a lot of other things. The lighting, the weather, and my beauty routine. Here are the efforts I make to revamp my beauty regime:
Take your time
I find the whole concept of "mindfulness" very cringy, if I'm honest. Then again, after 12 weeks of so-called "therapy" where every week you were told the answer to your mental health problems were to, "be more mindful", who wouldn't?
That being said, I do noticed a marked difference in my general happiness and confidence when I make a conscious effort to make time for myself. Go to bed an hour early to wake up an hour earlier; wake up slowly. Have a hearty breakfast. Make time for having quiet time. I love using an Aromatherapy Associates sand timer*, which lasts a couple of minutes, as a means of being more "mindful", I do something calming; make a cup of tea, flick through a magazine, as examples.
Shower & Bath
Having a long, hot shower with some luxe body oils and shower gels always sets me up for the day. My current favourite oils are the Aromatherapy Associates Bath and Shower Oils* - they have a huge selection, from revive to relax, morning and evening. As for shower gel, I've been loving the Organii Shea Butter Shower Gel*, it smells delicious!
I also love to use body creams, especially after shaving my legs. Having silky soft skin always makes me feel more confident. I've been loving the Malee Verdure Body Conditioning Cream* - which has a fresh, earthy fragrance that lingers all day too. Using a body cream also helps to soothe skin which has become dry from the cooler weather.
Aromatherapy
I am a big fan of aromatherapy and am a big believer in fragrances changing your mood. I love candles, I light an uplifting, floral scented one in my make up room when I'm doing my make up because I think it smells good and makes me feel more confident and awake. My favourite at the moment is the Aromatherapy Associates Relax Candle*, which I light when I'm winding down with a good book before bed time. Room fragrances are also a good option, I've been loving the gorgeous smelling Malee Verbure Room Mist*.
Balms & Oils
I tend to prefer cleansing balms and oils over foaming cleansers and milks, if I'm honest. Balms and oils are especially gentle and hydrating, so as the weather gets cooler and skin tends to get drier, it's the perfect time to make the switch. Here are some of my favourites:
Pixi Caroline Hirons Double Cleanse* | Bobbi Brown Extra Balm Rinse | Super Facialist Vitamin C Cleansing Oil* | Omorovicza Thermal Cleansing Balm | DHC Deep Cleansing Oil* | Time Bomb Peace & Quiet Coconut Cleansing Oil*
Essences & Tonics
Talking of skincare, another easy way to switch up my routine is to add an essence or a tonic, or swap out an ordinary toner for one. Essences are sort of like supercharged toners; the ingredients are generally more concentrated, like a serum (although serum's have more concentrated active ingredients^). I use Omorovicza's Omoroessence, which is a superb hydrating and balancing essence, perfect for these Autumn/Winter months. Although it's a tonic (same as a toner), definitely worth an honourable mention for it's effectiveness is the Estee Lauder Nutritious Algae Pore Minimising Tonic. Seriously, it's mind-blowing what it does to your pores in a matter of a few days!

thanks for the balms and oils tip. I don't have much of a routine to start with.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter in law was looking for an effective way to treat her skin as she suffers from all sorts of pigmentation and all. I think that these dna repair enzymes products will help her a lot.
ReplyDeleteIn love with Pixi!
ReplyDeleteI too have found Mindfulness a bit cringe worthy and despite giving it many shots and saying it doesn't work for me, therapists still advise it so I guess it must be of some worth to some people!
ReplyDeleteAromatherapy is probably how I relax the most. My favourite candle at the moment smells like fresh linen which is my all time favourite smell!

ReplyDeleteI find balms and oils to be really good too, simply because of my skin type. I also tend to avoid foaming anything - cleansers don't need to foam!

ReplyDeleteTotally love this routine. A good breakfast and a shower with nice products is definitely something I'm going to keep up.
ReplyDeleteGetting up earlier is a bit harder :P
I’m with you on the mindfulness and the irritation it creates from hearing it a million and one times over.. I don’t know about you but I’m constantly thinking and being ‘mindful’ that’s probably WHY I need my head checking in the first place, it’s gotta be one of the most annoying things to hear. A million times better when it’s taking time to relax and pamper yourself though! I’ve gotten into candles recently too, although I don’t have very many. Definitely going to be checking out the Estee Lauder Pore Minimising Tonic, thanks for the heads up!
