As a lover of Nars, when I saw they launched a new line of liquid lipsticks quite a few months ago now, it truly took every ounce of willpower to restrain myself from buying every shade.
With some of the money I got for my 21st birthday, I picked up a handful of shades which I've been trying for the past couple of weeks.
The first thing I noticed about the formula is that it has a very thin consistency, it's really very watery. Surprisingly though it's actually not runny and, thanks to the very fine and skinny applicator. As applicators go it's quite rigid and tough, but this is probably deliberate to be able to precisely apply such a thin liquid. Personally I really like the applicator.
Another surprise is that they're incredibly opaque. With just one swipe it's super opaque. I didn't expect such an intense colour payoff from such a thin product. But I was proved wrong. They're totally, 100% opaque, all the whilst still living up to it's claim of being "zero-gravity feel". While offering ultra rich colour, it provides a formula that you can barely feel you're wearing but also doesn't cling to your lips, and does't sink into the fine lines etc.
Now, as for the wear, if you're just going about your day and you're unlikely to have a bite to eat (night out, shopping, etc) you'll be fine. It doesn't smudge or bleed, and it's kiss proof (my boyfriend can verify this). No issues whatsoever. But sadly this does not pass "the food test". I wore it out to dinner one evening and the entire centre of my lips were naked very suddenly. So, although I love the lipsticks, they're out of the question for dinner dates.
The colour selection is nice but I'll be honest it's not as broad as I hoped. I walked up to the Nars counter with the sleeve on my swatching arm rolled up, ready to spend a lot of money on some lipsticks. I walked away with just four of them which, believe me, for me isn't a lot. There just wasn't a lot of shades that appealed to me, and there was a lot of variations of the same shade, i.e a mauve, a slightly darker mauve, a slightly lighter mauve, then a plum shade, a slighter redder plum shade, a slightly purple-er plum shade, etc. With not a huge amount in between, and, given there's only 20 shades (including the two Nars online exclusives), that's kind of a waste of variety. So yeah, I was definitely disappointed in the colour selection.
L-R: Under My Thumb, American Woman, Walk This Way, Get It On
Overall, I do recommend these little gems from Nars. They're not the best liquid lipsticks I've ever tried, although close, but I'd suggest that you'd love them if you have very wrinkly lips (not necessarily old age wrinkles) and really want to stray away from lipsticks that will emphasise fine lines, and if you really cannot stand the feel of product on your lips. These truly are light weight, more so than any other liquid lipsticks I've tried.

Lovely i would love to try these out
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your thoughts. It's good to know all the details about a product.
ReplyDeleteInteresting how it didn't past the food test.
Oooh they look really good, I'll have to try them xXx
ReplyDeleteSome great colours but yes disappointing with such a small selection would definitely like to test these out though.
ReplyDeleteLove the colours even if the selection of options is small. I love the last picture as well I think it looks awesome!
ReplyDeleteWow some amazing shades which will suit lot of skintones.
DeleteI was disappointed at the colour selection too and actually the formula didn’t work for me. So I totally skipped those and invested in the new Bobbi Brown semi matte lipsticks which feel super moisturising. Saying that, my most favourite liquid lip formula is By Terry. Give them a go next time you’re after a liquid lipstick, you might be pleasantly surprised!

ReplyDeleteThat photo at the end! Looks like it could be part of an editorial <3
ReplyDeleteQuite disappointed that the liquid lips are food-proof, I just tend to prefer liquid lips that last through everything
I have always wanted to try Nars
ReplyDeleteHave you tried their creamy concealer ? It’s packaged the same as those lip glosses , it’s definitely the best I’ve tried , it’s so smooth and creamy and also doesn’t sit in those fine lines .
ReplyDeleteLove the under my thumb colour. They look great.
ReplyDeleteI love NARS - so many shades to choose from
ReplyDeleteI've been debating moving from mac to Nars - your review certainly made a good campaign.
ReplyDeleteSuch a good product!
ReplyDeleteLove NARS ...don't often see it in the UK!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!
ReplyDeleteHmmmm, being nearly 40 now my main source of nights out are dinner dates usually either with friends or family or just me and the other half, so it doesn't sound like this Nars liquid lipstick would be the best choice for me does it! Shame really but maybe i will give in anyway and get one.....just in case i have a wild night out anytime soon!
ReplyDeletelove the variety of colours
ReplyDeleteLoving the post a great selection of colours here not tried this brand before

ReplyDeleteLove bold colours
ReplyDeleteI love nars!
ReplyDeleteThese look amazing, I'm a big fan of liquid lipsticks so want to try these xx
ReplyDeleteit's an interesting and honest review. Thanks for the info
ReplyDeletelike the tip about wrinkly lips which is really handy at this time of year when lips get dried and cracked
ReplyDeleteI've bought one of these. I love the colour but the applicator isn't great - I find it's hard to create a good shape with it! Love your swatches though!x
ReplyDeleteI've never tried any lip product that lasts through food! These colours are really nice though.
ReplyDeleteI've never used NARS but desperate to try it!!
ReplyDeleteLove the Get It On shade :)
ReplyDeletewhich was your favourite shade?
ReplyDeleteI've never used Nar's make-up, but I'd really like to.
ReplyDeleteI've never tried but looks amazing
ReplyDeleteI am completely in love with Under the Thumb x I love NARS make-up, Nars sheer Glow foundation is my favourite summer foundation of all time x
ReplyDeleteThese would probably be great for me because I have the classical Hilda Ogden Lips, I have a very thin top lip, so when I smile the lip disappears lol, which is why I don't tend to wear a lot of lippy. I would be conscious of it being all over my teeth. Maybe I should give these a go considering the fact that it's light to wear & doesn't feel like your wearing it. Thanks
ReplyDeleteLove the colours you bought so lovely great haul
ReplyDeleteI really like the Nars products. I never have a clue of what colour lippy to use and what suits me but I really like the colours you have here!
ReplyDeleteLove these. American woman is my fave x
ReplyDeleteLoving the colours &there name's.
ReplyDeleteThese look so lovely, I've never been brave enough to try lipstick, I think it just looks wrong on me!

ReplyDeletelove them colours
ReplyDeleteGorgeous colours x
ReplyDeleteOoh these look amazing!
ReplyDeleteMight gives Nars another try after reading this x
ReplyDeletethese look and sound FAB, great colours too
ReplyDeleteI’ve had my eye on the Nars brand for a while as I’ve yet to play around with anything from them.. These definitely sound like my kind of thing, especially being kiss proof as I never get to wear anything on my lips since having my daughter because I don’t want to coat her beautiful little face in lippy!

I have only tested a small nars lipstick sample. It was so creamy and lovely to go on.
ReplyDeleteAh , desperate to try NARS!
ReplyDeleteLoving your pictures. Like how intense the colour is and I find a lot of lipsticks rarely pass the food/drink test!

I have been using this from after doing my makeup lesson by makeup artist. This is a holy grain for me! I did my course from Lina, she trains the best makeup lesson in my town. Moreover, she is really caring and attentive to her students. She is really talented and helpful as well.
